From July 4th, 2005, to may 31th, 2006, Bruce Krebs, sculptor and multimediaster, has created a series of art works starting from the inheritance of the Fine arts Museum of La Rochelle, in France...

"The tailor"

A video film carried out according to paintings of Eugene Fromentin.

Like Delacroix, Eugene Fromentin is an Eastern painter. It is in these Eastern subjects that its talent is expressed best. As all the paintings presented in the Museum evoke Algeria, that gave me the idea to make a video film.

I thus used the seven tables exposed to the museum and only these. Only one of these paintings represents an interior, the graver of the tailor. In the foreground, one discovers a young man sitting quietly. It is a "chaouch", i.e. an emissary. I thus took the tailor as principal narrator.

(This 2 minutes old film does not comprise any faking, just brought closer framings.)

Here the text of the voice-off of film:

" Ah my good chaouch... you announce the visit of your Master to me... Always also impatient! What does he still want me? Really think it that an old tailor as me can mend all its crew of the only one waving of a magic wand! I am not called Aladin, whom I know? It takes him time with my needle, always more time... It told me to have torn its costume with hunting! I have evil to believe it... Which mad animal it could well fight!.. A giant lion? A herd of elephant?
     (images of "scene of hunting")

Tell me, one tells me at the village that rebels attacked a princely caravan, not far from there... Rebels or simple brigands?
(images of "the attack of the caravan" and the "passage of the ford")

Such as I know your Master, I think that it has to be thrown in the battle with lost body! as always...
and me, like always, I recouds, I recouds always and always... "

I have made a 2 minutes movie (in french)
