The King’s daughters
a sculpture by Bruce Krebs

This sculpture is a
Round-Dent Variation of
bronze wall "Eastern figurehead".

I was inspired by the story of the "Daughters of the King",
the women we sent to "New France".
They were leaving to get married there.
They had to make many children to populate
French overseas territories.
These young women, mostly Huguenotes,
left never to return.
In order to encourage them to leave, the King of France endowed them,
Hence the name they were then given.
For this "ronde bosse" version, I gave more importance to the boat piloted by an officer in tricorne.
I doubled the dimensions of this boat, so it is better to distinguish the women huddled against each other.
At the bow of this boat, I reproduced the silhouette of the three women.

The song "Les filles de La Rochelle" is linked to this story.
This is why the women of the Poitou, the Vendée and the Charente valley
were the first to emigrate.

Dimensions of the sculpture
Height : 19 cm, length: 25 cm, width: 18,5 cm.
